You and your sponsored family members should comply with the sponsorship agreement, which dictates that the applicant should support the financially sponsored family, and the sponsored persons should make an effort to support themselves financially.
  • If you are in a common-law relationship and are not married, but have been living together for a minimum of 12 months.
  • If you have children, they should be under 22, and they are unable to support themselves.

  • Family information (IMM 5406) which the main person and the dependents older than 18 should complete.
  • Information on relationship and evaluation of sponsorship (IMM 5532) which should be completed by both the applicant and the sponsor.

Note that all documents should be translated to English or France by a certified group, person. These documents are main, but there are supporting documents that can be required as well:

  • Status of the sponsor in Canada. Photocopies of proofs (permanent resident card, Canadian citizenship card/certificate, or a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport)
  • If you sponsored previously, photocopies of documents proving terminations of marriages (Divorce certificate, final annulment certificate, death certificate of former spouse)
  • Proof of financial meanings. If you (sponsor) are employed, you should present a letter provided by your current employer stating your salary, work hours, etc.

Note that Spouses are asked to present similar documents as well. They need to present civil status documents, travel documents, and passports. You should present photocopies of your passport’s main pages, indicating the date of issue and expiration, name, surname, date of birth, and place. If you reside in another country than your country of citizenship, a residency permit is required.
