Even if your country is exempt from visa requirements, if you intend to stay longer in Syria, you will need to apply for a Residence Permit from your home country before coming to Syria.

Foreign nationals who wish to live in the Syrian Arab Region for a period of more than one year fifteen days from the date of entry into the Syrian Arab Region must apply for a Residence Permit to the Department of Immigration and Passports or its branches in the provinces.

This procedure can vary depending on your country of residence, nationality, and the policy of the embassy you apply for a visa. However, it is advisable to contact the nearest Syria embassies/consulates for the exact information for Syria long-term visas.
